3D realistic driving (not racing) simulation with software rendering, based on Open Dynamics Engine (which is included in all *.tar.gz files so it doesn't have to be downloaded separately). 10 cars (all electric) and 12 tracks are available in version 5.0.0. Cars and tracks can be easily created and modified. Only SDL 1.2 or SDL 2 required besides standard C library. The functions used for graphics and sound are available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/simple3d/ along with another driving game, called simcar, which doesn't use ODE. I forgot to put SDL.dll (needed for the Wind0ws executable file to function) in the latest archive, but it's included with the other versions or you can get it from https://sourceforge.net/projects/libsdl/files/SDL/1.2.15/

Features

  • 3D driving simulation with realistic physics and software rendering; no 3D accelerator required;
  • A more detailed presentation, including 2 videos, is available on my site, the address of which can be found at https://sourceforge.net/u/matei_v/profile/

User Reviews

  • I just saw it on the list of newly updated projects in the game category. Had a play and enjoyed the tracks and vehicles. Binaries are available for Windows and Linux 32-bit or 64-bit. I am looking forward to exploring the game more. Thanks to the author!
  • This great little game just got better! I last played this game back in its 2.0 release, but the improvements in this version are significant. I particularly like the choice of vehicles, such as sports cars and trucks, the funny sound effects, and improved scenery.
  • This game is great and I really like its old school graphics and audio. However in my opinion there are some annoying things. The physics are nice but I find it quite hard to control the car precisely. Also at first car's sound is nice and very innovative. But on the long run it becomes pretty distracting. I know this (version 4) isn't the final release and so far the game has been awesome. I'm really looking forward for the newer releases!
  • Really nice, realistic physics and at the seme time old-style flavour: and it is easy to compile and run... and works well.
  • A brilliant game with awesome physics. Also fun to make your own tracks too! Found this game in the Linux Format magazine (issue March 2011).
